HEATHER JONES

when were you born?

I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1985.

where are you from?

I grew up in a small town in Southern Missouri until I moved to New York after college.

what are you doing?

For the last couple of years I have been working as an independent curator and project manager, organizing and assisting with projects in New York, Stockholm, Istanbul and Cape Town. I’ve most recently been working as the curatorial assistant at Kunsthall Stavanger, a new kunsthall in Norway, and completing a masters program in curatorial studies here in Stockholm.

what have you done?

I began working as an apprentice to the Sol Lewitt Studio where I assisted in the installation of Sol Lewitt; a Wall Drawing Retrospective at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. Upon completion, I immediately began work in New York managing the multiple installations, performances, and studio production sites for Swoon’s Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea at Deitch Projects in Long Island City. I then joined Swoon’s team as the full-time Studio Manager, overseeing projects in the US, the UK, Haiti, Italy and Germany, including Swimming Cities of Serenissima which we took to the 2009 Venice Biennale. I recently completed an Exhibitions Internship at Independent Curators International in New York where I got my hands dirty getting to work with international traveling exhibitions including the 20th anniversary of do it with Hans Ulrich Obrist and State of Mind; New California Art Circa 1970 with Constance Lewallen and Kate Moss.
